Finding Inspiration in Community Living

For Jim and Harlean, familiarity with Havenwood Heritage Heights came through friends in Concord who already called it home. Regular visits helped them understand both the accommodations and future care options available to residents. "It wasn't like an easy decision," they reflect, "but when we made the decision we knew we were right."

As residents of the South End Project Phase 1, they've found a close-knit community where neighbors gather for Friday afternoon socials. Their social circle has expanded through various activities – art groups, exercise classes, and shared meals. The Barrel Center serves as the community's vibrant hub, offering everything from a library and trip sign-ups to water aerobics.

For Jim, moving in at age 80 brought an unexpected source of inspiration. "All of a sudden we got here and we started seeing and observing the people who were walking all over the place, doing their four or five mile walks, exercising, and other activities. At 80 I was inspired because these people were at 88, 90. I mean it was unbelievable."

Their advice echoes what they've learned from experience: "Get in early, get in while you're feeling good." While the decision took time, their conclusion is clear: "We've never looked back. We've been extremely happy."
