For our 2016 Annual Overnight Trip, twenty-three residents headed to Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Our trip began on Monday, August 15th, the first time we’ve gone to the coast “in season.” Past trips have typically been in the spring.
Our first stop on the trip was Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens where we explored the beautiful grounds and admired countless plants, flowers and trees. Later, we gathered to enjoy lunch together followed by a golf cart tour around the grounds to see more than walking allowed. We then headed to our home for two nights - the Boothbay Harbor Inn. Everyone free to spend the evening as they wished, which for some was to walk across the foot bridge to the village.
On Tuesday morning, we boarded the bus for a driving tour of East Boothbay. Our guide shared the history of the area and took us to the beautiful coast line just north of Boothbay Harbor. In the afternoon, we went on a lighthouse cruise and even with overcast skies, the air was warm and the scenery was beautiful. We were delighted to see seals, osprey and lighthouses but were slightly disappointed to miss viewing puffins as they decided head north to find cooler air! Our evening, however, did not disappoint as we dined on fresh Maine lobster.
On our way home, we enjoyed several stops including those at the Morris Farm in Wiscasset, lunch at the Muddy Rudder in Yarmouth, and a stop at the Eartha Globe at DeLorme Headquarters. While we were pleased with the beauty of our destination and great weather, the joyous new memories and the camaraderie among all that attended, was the highlight of the trip.
