Please join us while Mike and Debra demonstrates how to make a mask from 2 elastics and a bandanna.
To Make Your Mask, You Will Need:
• 2 medium rubber bands.
• 1 bandana, or a piece of cotton cloth cut into a square.
• The bandana and cloth sample masks we made for HHH Channel 919 were 20” by 20”.
• No bandana or sewing fabric – Improvise! Use a sheet, pillow case or an old shirt.
MAKING THE NO-SEW MASK
• Place the fabric right side down on your work surface.
• Fold the bottom fabric edge to the center and give it a press.
• Fold the top fabric edge to the center and give it a press.
• Turn the whole piece over.
• Fold the bottom fabric edge to the center and give it a press.
• Fold the top fabric edge to the center and give it a press.
• Place a rubber band on each side of the folded fabric - Approximately 5 to 6 inches from edge
• Turn the fabric over again.
• Take the left end and fold it to the middle. Pull the elastic close to the end.
• Take the right end and fold to the middle. Pull the elastic close to the end.
• You will find that all of the folding has made a sort of pocket or fold. Open up the pocket on one side and tuck the other end of the fabric into the pocket area.
• Turn the fabric over and the mask is complete. Put it over your nose & mouth and fasten the rubber band to each ear.
REMOVING AND CLEANING YOUR MASK
YOU MUST LAUNDER THE MASK AFTER EACH USE!
• Remove the mask from the elastics. Do not touch the front of the mask where germs may be. Dispose of the elastics in the trash.
• Take the mask off properly and deposit the fabric into a designated container or bag to avoid contaminating other surfaces.
• WASH YOUR HANDS IMMEDIATELY – At least 20 seconds with soap and water!
• LAUNDERING: Remove the mask from the soiled container/bag by dumping it directly into the washing machine, don’t touch it! After it goes through a laundry cycle, dry on high heat.
