Exploring New Passions

When Gary Gordon could no longer climb the stairs in his home, he and his wife, Gail, knew it was time to consider a senior living community.

“I was getting worse as far as my medical conditions,” says Gary. “Gail was doing more and more work in the house. She had two acres of grass to cut and snow to shovel. We had to do something.”

Though they considered independent living communities, the couple wanted to find a place they could call home for the rest of their lives, even if their needs changed. As a continuing care retirement community offering a full spectrum of senior living options, Havenwood-Heritage Heights stood out as the best option.

“It wasn’t about him and it wasn’t about me. It was about us and our quality of life,” says Gail.

Since making the move, Gail and Gary have settled in. Gary spends his time crafting in the woodworking shop while Gail slings waffle cones at Scoops, the campus ice cream parlor, and volunteers with the ASPCA. She is also involved in the craft group.

“There are lots of things to do here,” says Gail, who is thankful that she and Gary moved when they did. “The biggest thing is not to wait until it’s too late to make a decision.”
