A Decade of Community Care
Ten years ago, a chance conversation at a yard sale – one of Linda Skaggs' favorite pastimes – led her to make a life-changing decision. Overhearing talk about new construction at Heritage Heights and learning that only a few cottages remained, she acted quickly.
Having cared for her mother with Alzheimer's for ten years, Linda knew she wanted a different path for herself and her family. "I knew that I didn't want anyone to have to take care of me. I wanted to be independent as long as I could and not have my family have to worry about me."
This foresight proved invaluable when Linda experienced a serious accident at a yard sale in Franklin, falling down sixteen stairs. What followed demonstrated the true value of her Heritage Heights decision – a seamless transition from hospital to rehabilitation care, and then back to her cottage with comprehensive support. "Everything was smooth from being transferred from the hospital to my bed, immediately being cared for," she shares.
The community's coordinated care system provided Linda with physical therapy, occupational therapy, and personal care, all while allowing her to recover in the comfort of her own home. "I was in my own place and it was quiet at night and it was so nice," Linda reflects. The community's support extended beyond professional care, with neighbors regularly offering encouragement during her recovery.
Her advice to others considering the move? "The sooner you come in the better. I'm so pleased I came in 10 years ago versus waiting till now when I'm older."
Linda's experience has confirmed what she suspected a decade ago: "It's almost impossible not to be happy here. There's something for everyone and there's so many people to meet and find as a family."
