Fitness & Wellness

Nourish a healthy, active lifestyle.

There are endless ways to stay physically and mentally active at our Continuing Care Retirement Community in Concord, New Hampshire. That’s because we know that exercise is critical to maintaining your health. After age 30, adults begin losing three to five percent of their muscle mass per decade. Muscular atrophy can cause balance problems, impaired coordination, difficulty walking, and more.

Thankfully, a consistent exercise routine can help mitigate muscle loss. Other benefits include:

  • Reduced risk of chronic disease
  • Improved cognitive function
  • Boosted immune system
  • Enhanced sleep
  • Increased life expectancy
  • Reduced risk of falling or injury

Stay Active in Our Fitness Centers

Our state-of-the-art fitness centers were designed with your wellness goals in mind. Both of our campuses are outfitted with equipment for strength and cardio training. Equipment includes, but is not limited to:

  • Nu-Step recumbent steppers
  • Landice treadmills
  • SciFit recumbent bicycles
  • Keiser weight equipment for strength building

Whether you are recovering from a fall, the common cold, or just working to maintain muscle mass, our staff can develop a customized fitness plan that is unique to your needs. Residents are often surprised by the effectiveness of an individualized exercise plan. For many, this proactive approach to wellness quickly increases mobility, lessens chronic pain, and reduces anxiety and depression.

New Klapproth Sports Complex

This new amenity offers a variety of options to stay active and exercise. Within the sports complex, we have a pickleball court, basketball net, two-hole golf putting green, shuffleboard court, and bocce ball on the grass. These different sport areas can be booked out for individual play as well as fun tournament play. Equipment available or bring your own!

Socialize With Friends During Group Exercise

Whether it’s cycling, hiking, pole walking, Tai Chi, or a quick yoga session, exercising with others is one of the best ways to stay motivated and maintain a regular schedule of physical activity. Group exercise is also a great way to create new friendships. In fact, studies show that group exercise can help older adults reduce their risk of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and isolation.

Swim in Our Indoor & Outdoor Pools

Outdoor pool at Havenwood Heritage Heights

The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise five to seven days a week. But high-impact aerobic exercise like running or hiking can tax your joints. That is why water exercise—a low-impact alternative that is friendly to aching muscles and bones—is so popular among older adults. Our indoor pool is heated and can be used for individual or small group exercise. Our outdoor pool is not heated and is open mid- May to mid-September for laps or just a refreshing dip and visiting with friends!

At Havenwood Heritage Heights, you can participate in one of our many water aerobics classes or go for a solo swim. If water aerobics isn’t your forte, you can also just go for a relaxing dip in one of our indoor and outdoor pools.
